What is single malt scotch whisky?
Aged for a minimum of three years (although, as you’ll see below, the best are aged for much longer), whisky is simply made with malted barley, water and yeast. ‘Single’ malt whisky will come from an individual distillery, and if you’ve ever traversed the length of Scotland (Balmoral to Gleneagles counts), then you’ll be aware of how a distillery’s location can hugely influence the overall flavour.
Split into different regions, you can expect distinct characteristics between ‘Lowland’ whisky and ‘Highland’ whisky, with those from Campbeltown, Islay and Speyside all offering a unique experience too.
What should I look for when buying whisky?
Your whisky preference says a lot about you. For some, peaty, mysterious drams will be the ultimate mark of a great whisky, for others, sweet, rich, spicy serves will go down a treat. Made in very exclusive quantities using renewable energy, this is the second batch of its organic, core line — and it couldn’t be further from the stuffy old boys’ club associated with whisky. We quite like adding a sprig of mint and a touch of soda water when entertaining, however the combination of honey, ripe stone fruit and creamy lemon is simply delicious as it is.
