Over the years, the BAFTAs red carpet has served up countless talking-point style moments, courtesy of both emerging talent and major Hollywood stars.
During the ’90s And ’00s, stars used the BAFTAs as an opportunity to experiment. In 1999, Gwyneth Paltrow arrived at the ceremony in sparkling black separates that flashed her toned abs. The look was more daring than the blush Ralph Lauren gown she wore to accept the Academy Award for Best Actress weeks earlier.
Fellow silver-screen darlings Julia Roberts, Elizabeth Hurley and Kate Winslet topped best-dressed lists with their respective gowns. Hurley was ahead of the body-flossing trend in 1998, when she wore a strappy orange gown to the ceremony.
The ’00s were no less spectacular. Supermodel Naomi Campbell sported a simple black halter-neck gown in 2000, Halle Berry wowed in an avant-garde corseted look in 2002, and Sienna Miller wore an open-back Emanuel Ungaro gown in 2007.
