PLANETARY CARES

In order to encourage care for the environment through gamification, Applinka is trying to urge people to contribute more actively to saving the planet through environmentally-friendly activities that reduce their carbon footprint.

By using the app, users can challenge their friends to engage in activities such as planting trees, using public transport, recycling etc., with the aim of reducing air pollution while pursuing active and healthy lifestyles.

Upon signing up, users can either join or create challenges such as riding a bicycle to work, planting a tree and so on, which have to be completed in the specified time limit. The winner receives a reward from other users, thereby incentivising positive environmental action.

By promoting such activities and healthier lifestyles in a more social and engaging manner, platforms such as Applinka can go a long way towards creating a cleaner greener Earth.

OPTIMISE AUTISM

Detecting autism in children early is the key to enabling timely intervention and its maximum effectiveness to ensure they’re able to integrate into society. However, access to autism screening continues to be a challenge for many carers.

Enter CogniABle, which provides an inexpensive and easily accessible platform for autism screening in children at an early age. The AI enabled platform offers a remote service that’s data driven and designed to be more accurate; and it is less expensive than traditional methods.

Through CogniABle, those living in areas that don’t offer autism related services and assistance can access screening, advice and expert assistance. Once a diagnosis is completed – based on a number of factors such as children’s fine and gross motor skills – the platform draws on AI and data to customise plans for each child.

By offering such services to children who might otherwise stay under the radar, CogniABle is able to ensure that more autistic kids are able to live fuller and more integrated lives.

TAKE THAT SHOT!

‘Taking a shot’ is about to take on a whole new meaning with Panasonic’s new SHOT device, which creates smoothies that are customised for individual skin and nutritional needs.

While there are plenty of healthy eating options for health conscious people, many tend to base their diets on food that’s commonly considered nutritious. But in doing so, responses that address particular nutritional needs or deficiencies can be overlooked.

SHOT uses AI to design the perfect customised smoothie, which delivers as many targeted nutritional needs as possible. The device uses an inbuilt camera to diagnose skin health and then creates a smoothie recipe based on this information.

Created as part of Panasonic’s ‘Balance of Being’ line of products, SHOT aims to deliver nutrition based products that contribute to a better quality of life.

WEB GIRL SQUADS

A new social media app named Squad is offering women a safe space from online harassment by blocking trolls and unwanted interlocutors. Women can then continue to indulge in sharing information and hanging out digitally without aggravation.

Taking on the ‘tech bro’ culture, Squad allows users to video chat, browse, post, read direct messages or even plan a trip on Airbnb with friends while being safe from unwelcome intrusions.

The app allows users to video chat with up to six people at a time by seeing each other online or through screen sharing. They can browse memes together, co-work on a project, chat, solicit opinions on clothing choices or pretty much anything else they’d do while hanging out together in the real world.

While providing a safe and secure place for women to hang out, apps such as Squad also go a long way in educating people on the need for more inclusive, safer and friendlier online activity.
