TRAITS OF BLACK

Relying on darkness to nuance flattery

BY Kamil Hewavitharana

The colour black is associated with power, strength, mystery, fear, authority, elegance, formality, death, evil and sophistication. Black is a colour that remains fashionable; and it’s flattering to most of those who wear it.

What’s more, it is a shade that looks good for most occasions irrespective of whether the event is formal or casual.

American fashion designer Tom Ford once said that every woman should have at least one little black dress in her closet: “You will never know if you’ll have a wedding or a party, or a funeral to attend.”

This collection for Living is in black; and the gowns, which aren’t quite little black dresses, are created from different fabrics in a variety of designs.

From chiffon and silk to sequinned fabrics, these gowns have been designed with frills, flounces and sleeves in various shapes. The collection showcases how striking the colour black is… and how it can enhance a woman’s beauty.
