Attracting over 1.7 million tourists a year, Costa Rica (Spanish for ‘rich coast’) is quickly becoming the jewel in Central America’s crown. It has the Caribbean Sea to its east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, and a landscape of towering volcanoes, lush rainforests and sparkling coastlines. In addition to a year-round sunny climate, it’s easy to see why this country is quickly becoming a favourite amongst holidaymakers from around the world.
With its breathtaking scenery, diverse wildlife and extreme sports, Costa Rica really does offer something for everyone. Whether it’s relaxing on the white sands and enjoying the perfect turquoise water, learning to salsa and partying into the night or soaking up culture in the country’s capital San José, a trip to this up-and-coming destination will certainly not disappoint visitors.
For the sun worshippers amongst you, head to the Guanacaste Province in northwestern Costa Rica. It’s known for its hot dry weather, paradisal beaches and great surfing. On the Caribbean coast, Limón offers a laid-back vibe with an eclectic mix of people, zesty food and funky reggaeton inspired nightlife.
Central Valley is the home of San José with plenty of places of historical interest to engage history buffs. Nature lovers can take in a trip to the provinces of Alajuela and Heredia, and enjoy visiting the many national parks and volcanoes in this neck of the woods.
Wherever you choose to stay, one thing is guaranteed: Costa Rica will leave you with memories that you’ll treasure forever. As well as the country itself, its people will almost certainly set up camp in your heart since their positive outlook, friendly demeanour and love of life are infectious; and anyone who encounters it never fails to embrace their own Pura Vida!
